It was fisrt described by F.O.Wolf in 1889, revision by Praeger in 1925.

S. ×christii is a natural hybrid between grandiflorum and S. montanum.

Rosettes of this natural cultivar are up to 2 cm in diamether, ligtly wooly and green with purple red tips. Some describe it as deep green palnt, pubescent leaves with dark tips with pinkish-yellow flowers. Fact is that the flower changes colour, mostly it is purple with yelow tips.
