S. calcareum was first described by Jordan in 1849.
Habitat of this specie is SW Alps - France and Italy.
Description: Grey-green or bluish-green rosettes, leaves usually distinctly tipped with reddish brown. Petals shade from cream to pale red at the base.
There is a large number of geografical varieties under cultivation, as well as many cultivars.
