i was just thinking about that article, and it seems they made a sort of misleading conclusion: suggesting that the plant was (i quote without re-opening the page, but it was something like this) 'heliophylic and xerophylic' loving sun and dryness; i doubt that the plant has full sun and dry soil as a requirement for health; the more accurate inference would be that these conditions keep competition limited--any spot with more shade and more moisture would quickly grow some other plants that would outcompete the small sempervivum...
