How to smuggle Sempervivums in different countries?
Smuggling for beginners
1. Be modest - try with small quantities
I normally send about 20 sempervivums per one post to non EU countries.
2. Don't send small parcel, send fat letter
I use plastic boxes - the one they use to store food - and I put semps wrapped in toilet paper (it is softer than paper towel!!!) in. I wrap the box in used newspaper and put it in a slightly bigger bubble envelope.
3. Make the letter look like teenage post or birthday present, not buisiness parcel
The custom office would not dare to harm a kid and ruin his/her birthday. But a parcel that looks like a business one - let's open it and see what's in there ...
4. Daclare it is a gift of small value
Sometimes you must put those green paper as a custom declaration on your mail. Write down a symolical value (2 or 3 €, dollars etc...) - because mail in which there are goods of certain value must go thru custome office before even leaving your country.
Declare the semps as a "decoration" (well, they are, aren't they?!).
5. Send it by priority mail
... if possible ....
Backside of the parcel sent to Sanja, Rijeka, Croatia
September 2008 - She got this one...
If any of you has any smugler knowlewdge, please feel free to share it with us. Thank you!
Oh, by the way, I swap worldwide!!! That's how I gained my experiences ....
