How not to ship Sempervivums
This is what happened to me this spring.
Ordered plants arrived to me in a carton box - 2 or 3 pots wraped in newspaper were put in a plastic bag and sealed. Some 6 plastic bags were put in a box ...
Plants were bouncing all their way from Germany to Slovenia ... because there was a lot of empty space in the box ... And there was no sign that stuff in a box can damage ...
A lot of wet (!) soil fell out, some plants were covered by the wet soil all over ... Some I have actually trouble founding in the mud!
Some plants made stolons, but they were damaged by the fact of wet soil and everthing else.
Because the soil was wet the paper was torn.
I was nothing but dissapointed. I ordered and payed for the plants back in December and when I finally received them after such a long time, some of them (Like S. ciliosum) did not make it!
I wouild expect at least the soil to be dry when sending the plants (to get them bare root is just too much of asking!). I got the feeling I am an unwanted customer.

These are from a commercial supplier? if the fault is their packaging, they should replace them or send back your money....

Yes, from a small and rather unknown commercial supplier from Germany.

That's awful - poor little plants! Hope that the ones which survived are feeling (and looking) better now.

Thats very sad to see Renata, very sorry you lost some of them thats heart breaking, but i would have deffinately contacted the people that you orderd them thru and sent them pics and everything, they need to come clean and either send replacements PACKED RIGHT or give you some sort of refund or store credit.. Keep us posted as to how the rest are doing that have survived... How long were they in shipping, some of them look as if they have been in the damp dark for some time/lack of light..

Well, the nursery I bought from isn't exactly a "Sempervivum nursery" and as it turned out they have a very poor knowledge on Sempervivums. I should have known better when ordering ... but yet I could not resist the temptation.
