It is a very old medicinal and witch-plant...
The Houseleek is therefore one of the numerous "Herbs-for-cuts ", " Herbs-for-burns " or "Herbs-for-horns", because of real or supposed healing-soothing and/or keratolitic properties of the abundant juice of its leaves, when placed directly on the injury, the burn or the undesirable excrescence. In Brittany, for example, and probably elsewhere, it was frequently, and is sometimes again alas, used to relieve the otitises (!) while pressing the juice of a leaf in the auditory duct... Noting the state of the eardrums of people having "benefitted" from this shock treatment, one can put forward without too much risk of mistake that the reputation of this plant in this domain is somewhat overrated...
