S. montanum subsp. carpathicum - habitats

Like the name suggest, S. montanum subsp. carpathicum can be found in Carpathians. This mountain range is forming an arc that is roughly 1,500 km long. Carphatians stretch from the Czech Republic in the northwest to Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Serbia,Ukraine and Romania in the east. Tatras on the border of Poland and Slovakia are part of Carpharians.

S. montanum subsp. carpathicum was classified by Wettst. ex Hayek, 1923

The most famous clone of this S. montanum subspecies is Cmiral’s Yellow, a plant that was found growing in the wild by Otokar Cmiral, from former Czechoslovakia.

Banská Štiavnica is habitat of Sempervivum montanum subsp. heterophyllum. There are more habitats near town Banska Štiavnica (Sitno and so on).

So Banska Štiavnica is not correct?

Also Zamutovské skaly in Slanské hills - this should be also S. montanum subsp. heterophyllum.
Turna - also is not correct - there are only calcite rock - S. marmoreum subsp. matricum grows there.
There is no habitat of S. montanum in Slovenský ráj (Hrdlo Hornádu).
In Malá Fatra is only one habitat of S. montanum - but S. montanum subsp. heterophyllum - Starý hrad above the river Váh.

Sempervivum montanum subsp. carpathicum grows from from altitude 1550 metres and higher. The rosettes are not so big (to 5 cm in diameter).
In the Nízké Tatry (Low Tatras) are the southest habitats of this species in Slovakia.

Sempervivum montanum subsp. heterophyllum - grow only in Slovakia - in central part of the country. The Semps habitats are only to 1100 metres above sea level. The rosettes are bigger - to 7 cm in diameter.
Banská Štiavnica is the nice town in the central Slovakia. It is located in Štiavnické hills. And there are more habitats of S. montanum subsp. heterophyllum (Sitno, Szabóova rock, Krivín).

I am glad, that you like the photo. Did your rosettes bloom? The blooms should be yellow, if it is real of S. montanum subsp. carpathicum f. neopallidum.

I show next photo of blooming S. montanum subsp. carpathicum. My plants from Kráľova skala (Nízké Tatry, Slowakia) bloom every year. About 10 rosettes bloomed this year at the same time. I cultivate these plants outside on my bed for Sempervivums and Jovibarbas.

This one didn't bloomed yet, I just got it last year.
