Corni Di Canzo
Oh, I wish I would know!
Hybrid plant labeled as Corni Di Canzo is to be seen in European collector's lists! But what is this? A hybrid or a geo-clone?
In his Sempervivum cultivar list made in year 2000, Martin Miklanek reffers to this plant as a Sempervivum cultivar stating William Newhard, USA as it's breeder and 1968 as it's year of introduction.
The first time Corni di Canza was mentioned reffering to Sempervivum was by Henry Correvon - and he also gave us the very first description of it: a large plant with very glaucous an thick leaves, flowers brownish rose in colour. The plant is similar to S. x comollii. It was found by H. Correvon at Barro moutain (Baro is wrong!) in Lombardy, Italy.
Monte Barro is a mountain with an elevation of 922 metres. It is close to Corni di Canzo.
Some plants under the name Corni di Canza appear to be a S. arachnoideum hybrid and might be wrongly labeled!!!
Corni di Canzo means "Horn of Canzo" - a name of moutain range in Italian Alps in northern Italy close to Swiss border.
Corni di Canza is but wrong form of the name of this mountain range!

Re: Corni Di Canzo
Hi, all I can tell is that the photo (like almost all others of sempervivums) was taken in National Botanic Garden of Belgium in June 2009.

Re: Corni Di Canzo
Hm, that just deepens the mystery: plant on the photo does not look like a S.arachnoideum hybrid at all...
