Now, this is a name that is no longer correct:

Sempervivum banaticum was classified by Domokos in 1936.

But we can still find the name S. banaticum now and than and I dediced to tell you more about the anme itself.

Today species S. banatacium is included in S. marmoreum subsp. marmoreum.

The type plant was found by Janos Domokos in 1933 in Romania - Banat, near Danube river in village Szvinica at elevation of about 700 m.

Janos Domokos (1904-1978) was Hungarian botanist.

Name "banaticum" comes from Banat, a region in central Europe, divided between Hungary, Serbia and Romania.

Why is that name no longer correct?

I would not say that the name S. banaticum is false. I would avoid to assign the name as a synonym. Why?

During the journey in 2010 we visited one habitat in the nearby of Svinitza. There grow very interestring plants. We thought, that it is a Sempervivum ruthenicum. But this idea is false.

The plant on a habitat in the nearby of Svinitza
S. banaticum 26sempervivum

Look at the plant in the picture. Is it Sempervivum ruthenicum? The answer is "NO." Is it Sempervivum marmoreum? Or S. ballsii, erythraeum, italicum, reginae-amaliae? The answer is the same - again "NO." What is it? The plants correspond with the description of Sempervivum banaticum! I think, it is Sempervivum banaticum.

What do You think?
