I am a bit confused about this plant. On the german forum/site is a statement that this plant was named by Karr Foerster in 1938, but that in fact it is older than that (hybridiser unknown). Are there 2 plants with the same name? I obtained one from Arends & Maubach, which has a closed center like a S. wulfeni.

The name of the plant you have in mind is Bechleri Ural Turmalin.

Martin Miklanek gives Helen von Stein - Zeppelin as a breeder of Uralturmalin, while on German list there is stated that the breeder is unknown. Who would know!

I will ask the people from Arends and Maubach if they have any way to check how long they have this plant in their nursery.

And I will post a photograph of mine so we can compare if it looks similar to yours. But this has to wait untill next week.

Edit: the pictures of "Uralturmalin" on the German site look similar to my plant, while the pictures of "Bechleri Ural Turmalin" look more like a S. tectorum. However, there is a discussion there about "Uralturmalin" which suggests that this is the old variety. Seems there is some confusion.

Addition: to make it more confusing: on the website from A & M it states that their plant is "Uralturmalin" which is named by Karl Foerster in 1938!

Hi Semps-friends;

we have corrected our german list - it was my mistake;

cv. Uralturmalin is also a synonym for the cv. Bechleri Ural Turmalin; but the right cv. Uralturmalin looks very different to it;
