Your picture is a surprise for me because my Rubin don't look. Your Rubin have a S. arachnoideum ancestor. My Rubin not ...

My rubin look at this picture http://www.sempervivum-forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=675

Yes, this might be a wrong plant. I am trying to sort it out with a guy that sent it to me - and the person that he got it from - It is labeled as

S.arachnoideum cv. Rubin.

They claim there are two RUBIN-s - the one you pointed out (I have this one, too) and this Sempervivum arachnoideum cultivar ...

VBut than again there might be two of them - a S. arachnoideum and a S. tectorum cultivar, both named RUBIN.

This arachnoidem cultivar named Rubin is - for example - listed here:

Eh, you must admit: red colour is close to rubin. Name suits the colour.

I think I can further solve this mystery... The arachnoideum cultivar being called 'Rubin' is actually S. arachnoideum cv. "Robin" David T. Ford (UK) 1976
see: http://mitglied.lycos.de/nabu/Index_of_all_CultivarsRi.html

My own clump of 'Robin' (from Fernwood) looks exactly like the one in your photo, Admin
