S. x vaccarii is a natural hybrid of S. arachnoideum and S. grandiflorum.

The plant is very rare in culture.

S. x vaccarii was first described by botanist Vaccari in 1905.

This is a variable plant with rosettes much resembling S. grandiflorum but smaller and bearing a little white hair at the apex.

Isn't it unusual to name a species, or in this case a hybrid, after yourself? So I wonder, did he really name it after himself or rather after his wife or another family member with the same name?
