Karavanken

Karavanken (mostly in use as the name of the highway tunnel that connects Austria and Slovenia) is given as the origin of S. "marmoreum $ dinaricum", see http://stalikez.info/fsm/semp/site/yougo_fr.php#sm_16

I suppose this is unlikely because it is well within the known distribution of S. tectorum and outside of the distribution of S. marmoreum, but does anyone know more about this mystery plant? And is there really S. tectorum somewhere around there?

About the name:

Karawanken is the German name for this mountain range.

Slovene name is Karavanke.

However, Karavanken Mountains is "a kind of an" English name.

(Mind the V and W and N on the end!)

About the mysterious plant .... the plant is supposed to be in cultivation, but I never seen it listed in any of collections. If you ask me, there is no such thing as S. marmoreum dinaricum from this mountain range! Karavanke are just too north and far away from the dinaricums, which are to be found, like teh name suggests, in Dinara mountains in former Yugoslavia (Croatia, Bosnia and down to Montenegro).
