Rila is in Bolgaria.

It is a habitat to Sempervivum collectors well known local form of S. erythraeum.

Rila is not only the name of a mountain range in Bulgaria, but also the name of a river and of the valley of that river (Rila Valley), of a village and, of course, the famous Rila monastery, all situated in the Rila mountains.
Near the monastery grow Semp. erythraeum (Semp. marmoreum ssp. erythraeum) and Semp. ciliosum and the hybrid between these two: Semp. praegeri, at an elevation of about 1550 meters.
