A semp tank Empty A semp tank

Post by Chromaphyo Sun Apr 18, 2010 3:40 pm

With some old boards, I made last year a small tank that I planted with sedum and Sempervivum
The appearance is really starting to please me!

A part of my collection. When I see that I have over 400 different varieties, I say that it borders on insanity.
I can finally take care of the rest of the garden.
It was time. Since this week, Semp begin to reproduce.

Great collection!
I really like your board tank.
What about drainage and soil structure?

Narcoleptic

In the bottom, Styrofoam and big stones
On the top (10-15 cm), 1/2 compost and 1/2 gravel
Boards are protected by a plastic film. In the bottom, exist a exit hole for water

I suppose that plastic protection is just from the inside.
Did you used nylon or some kind of liquid plastic (as for making boats)?
I have a book called ''Making concrete garden ornaments'' by Sherry Warner Hunter and i was thinking about making concrete tanks, but i like your idea better because wooden tanks are cheaper, lighter and they look great too.

I made this tank in one hour with old materials, it cost me any money.
The plastic used is an old plastic film packaging and is just from the inside.
The tank is raised to protect from moisture

I love the Semp tank! I like it when the Semps and Sedums get used in a garden setting. Looking at pots lined up in a row gets old.

I can not wait to see how it looks this season

i have got one ... "thing/dish" that was used in vine production,
it is made of wood and I think that it would be great for planting semps in it

thank you for inspiration

I'm way behind posting on this thread - but I love your semp tank too. Very pretty and the plants look happy.
