Post by I'm the 1 on Wed Aug 13, 2008 7:26 am

Name: Plocken pass - English writing, but wrong
Plöcken Pass - old German writing
Ploecken Pass - new German writting

Plocken Pass is in Carnic Alps, Carinthia, Austria. It is 1360 m high pass in Alps on the borderline with Italy.

This is a habitat of J. arenaria.

There is no difference between Plöcken Pass and Ploecken Pass. The two dots over the a, o and u in German are called "Umlaut". In case you cannot write the umlaut, you have to replace it by an "e". So, the German cities Köln and München (Cologne and Munnich in English) may also be written as Koeln and Muenchen, which has absolutely nothing to do with old or new German writing!
The Italian name for the Plöcken Pass is Passo di Monte Croce Carnico.
Apart from Jovibarba arenaria, I found also S. tectorum growing there, on the Italian side of the pass.

And now something more on Carnic Alps in various languages - with a help of Wikipedia:

The Carnic Alps are a range of the Southern Limestone Alps in East Tyrol, Carinthia and Friuli (Province of Udine). They extend from east to west for about 100 km (62 mi) between the Gail River, a tributary of the Drava and the Tagliamento, forming the border between Austria and Italy.
They are named after the Roman province of Carnia, which probably has a Celtic origin.
The mountains gave their name to the stage on the geologic time scale known as Carnian.
