Here is the Orostachys I have. This will be my first winter with them. I was told to keep the O. eburnifolia under a porch roof or house overhang so it wouldn't get much water in the cold season. It is suppose to be a combination of cold and wet that kills them. We have a very wet winter and spring here in the Pacific Northwest.
I want to do everything I can to keep these alive and growing well.

First you have to host an image(you have to put it on server). There is a button ''Host an image'' above text box when you reply.
Then you will get a location of your image. Copy a location in your post. Please start new topic in Orostachys part of forum.

Good morning Renata and Narcoleptic.
I am so glad you enjoyed the photos, some are not very sharp and clear. I will have to work on that. : )
I was so worried I wasn't posting correctly. Starting to feel more comfortable with how this site works.
Now all I have to do is get them through winter. The cold here should not be a problem. The ones that are out in unprotected beds may need to be put into pots and placed where they won't get so much rain.

I feel that way also. Just have to learn how to take proper care of them. Most I got from two local nurseries that specialize in hard to get plants.

Well I know for sure now what is damaging my Orostachys spinosa.
You can see the slug slime on the right side of the rosette. I put slug bait out, sure hope that takes care of the problem.

I just started Orostachys chanetii and iwarenge and another unnamed species from seed I received from the north american rock garden seed exchange. They're starting to germinate. I can't wait to see how they'll do. I have O. furuseii and O. aggregata outside under the snow. They survived last winter fine. It's been colder this year though. I ordered a few Orostachys from Mesa gardens in New Mexico, USA. I've never ordered from them. looking forward to spring.

here's their website. http://www.mesagarden.com/ to find the orostachys click on the link that says "Plants 2010/2011 lists". the orostachys are on that list. They don't have seed for them so I thought I'd get plants and propagate through cuttings and their seed if I'm lucky.

Hi Mark!
I'm glad you had success with Orostachys germinating.
Species O. chanetii is very rare in cultivation.

I saw you've started topic about sowing but unfortunately i don't have any experience. Actually i tried to sow O.spinosa last spring but pigeons turned over pots and destroyed potential crop.
Could you please write more about procedure for sowing.
I hope you will also put photos of your seedlings soon.

Lynn, I hope your collection will grow more this spring and that we will enjoy in your new photos soon.

I am so excited to say all varieties have made it through the winter here. Very wet this year. Some are even showing signs of reproducing. I will take more photos when we get some sunny weather, and share them with you. My Orostachys collection 534622

We will be getting snow tonight and tomorrow (only a small amount), then temperatures will warm again. Some of my hardy succulents are starting to produce offsets already.

I sowed the seeds in small pots and covered them with thin plastic sandwich bags. I put them on a heat mat. Put them in our unheated cellart and they germinated in 2 weeks to one month. Chantei is slower to germinate than iwarenge but they're coming along. Here's a link to a few suggestions for germinating seeds. It's the ontario rock garden page. There's a link to a germination guide at the top of the page. http://www.onrockgarden.com/ I'm trying to collect as many species and cultivars as possible to see how they survive our winters. I'm starting a small hardy succulent nursery and would love to obtain more as there aren't many nurseries that offer them in northeast usa. Any more suggestions for sources of plant material would be helpful.
