Sempervivum staintonii was first described by Clara Winsome Muirhead in Notes from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh 29: 20, back in 1969.
Known habitats are:
S. staintoni is a hybrid parent of S. × feigeanum Neeff (2005), a natural hybrid with S. davisii.
